Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the Highest!

The Two Great Commandments to Make America Great Again

The United States of America has successfully developed and implemented the democratic election system for the last two hundred years, but recently the election results often caused intensified division and even hostilities between the Republic Party and Democratic Party and their supporters. Both parties sometimes went to the two extreme of left and right and caused gridlock in the Congress and government, which is not good for the country.

Two thousand years ago, Jesus gave the warning on this situation, “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall.” (Luke 11:17)

Currently, the Republican Party and Democratic Party are too far apart on their policies, and their supporters are also deeply divided, sometimes even turned hostile to each other. There could be many political reasons behind such division. I’d like to use the Word of God to provide the spiritual solution on this situation.

The Two Greatest Commandments of Jesus Christ

Once a Pharisee tested Jesus with his question, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and the greatest commandment. And the second is: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:35-40)

Currently, the Republicans followed the first commandment and hold the strong faith in God. Their conservative value is based on the Word of God in the Bible. Without the Republicans holding the strong faith in God, this Nation of God would fall like those European countries. It is the blessing of God that turned the United States of America from a desert land into a great nation and the Super Power of the world in two hundred years. It is also God’s plan to make the United States the “pillar” (Revelation 3:12) of Christianity in the world when the old Christendom in Europe fell.

However, some of Republican’s policy lacks the mercy and compassion of Christ for the poor and under-privileged. They missed the second commandment of Jesus Christ, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

On the other hand, most Democratic pay attention to the human right and advocate for the right of the poor and minorities. They fulfill the second commandment of Jesus Christ, “Love your neighbor as yourself”, but they lack the faith in God. They may think that with the current technology they don’t need God. They don’t know the spiritual effort and blessing of God behind the creation and growing period of this nation of God.

Therefore, I’d like to use the scripture and the record in the Bible to show the consequences of these two incomplete fulfillments of Jesus’ two commandments.

1. Message for the Republicans

Jesus once told his disciples a parable about the judgment:

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and goats on his left.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

From this parable, people should realize that just claiming the faith in God is not enough. You need to show your faith through your deed. As Jesus said, “Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21) Sobe merciful, just as your Father in heaven is merciful.” (Luke 6:36)

For the people who love God and also have faith in God, you need to do good things to those who are hungry, thirsty and suffering, especially on the issues of health care, immigrants and refugees, because when you do good thing to those least privileged you are doing good things for God. Of course, on the refugee issue, homeland security is definitely a major concern and those who are radical and hostile to the United States should be barred from entrance.

In the Old Testament, there is a proverb, “He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.” (Proverbs 28:27) That’s why Jesus gave his two Great Commandments, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39) Following one commandment while ignoring the other is simply not enough.

2. Message for the Democrats

At this modern age of scientific discoveries and technology development, many people think there is no need to have faith in God. They think just by human goodwill or moral standard they can have a better society. They just forget the lesson of French Revolution and Communist Revolution.

In French Revolution, their motto is “Liberty, Equality and Fraternity”. In Communist Revolution, they also advocated equality for everyone. They were all goodwill of human beings. But when they turned against God, they both ended up in disasters.

After the decoding of the prophecies in the Book of Revelation, people can see that all the major historical events in the world were actually the consequence of the spiritual events happened in the spiritual realm. The spiritual influence and judgment from the heavenly hosts are much more powerful than any man, any king or any group of people on the earth. People have the freedom to do what they want to do, but God will determine the ultimate outcome, either rewards or punishment, of any major movement on the earth.

Currently, the United States has the greatest democratic system in the world, and people can use their votes to determine which way their country shall be led to. However, people need to learn the Word of God through historical testimony and make their decision accordingly. Whenever people’s will is conflict with the Word of God, the Word of God always prevails. Those who followed their own will disregarding the Word of God always faced the tragic disasters in the end.

In the Bible, there are several cases when people’s decision was against the Word of God, they ended up in disasters. When Noah followed the order of God to build an arch, most people were laughing at him. But when the big flood came, those who laughed at Noah perished and only Noah’s family and their selected animals were saved. When Moses went into Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments from God, those Israelis in the wilderness built a golden calf for themselves as their god, which violated the law of God against idol worshipping. Although it was a democratic decision approved by most Israelis there, it caused great disaster when the Judgment of God came.

Throughout the Old Testament, the history of Israel is a classic text book on the rewards and judgment of God. When a nation followed the Word of God, the whole nation was blessed by God with peace and prosperity, or with victory if at war. When a nation abandoned the faith of God and turned against the Word of God, the whole nation suffered the wars and disasters.

The United States has the similar history. When Americans started to put “In God We Trust” on the US currencies after the Civil War, the United States never had another war like that in their homeland again. When the United States had “In God We Trust” on all its currencies after the World War II, the US currency became the most powerful and valuable currency in the world. But during 2007-2008, some fools decided to remove “In God We Trust” from the face of newly minted dollar coins, then God also took His blessing away and Americans suffered the largest financial crisis in eighty years.

Therefore, it is important for Americans to learn the lesson through history and understand the ultimate reason behind the success of this nation. It’s God’s plan to create this New Nation of God almost two thousand years ago as prophesied in the Book of Revelation. Without the blessing of God, it is impossible to create a world superpower out of a land of wilderness in merely two hundred years of time. If American people abandon the faith in God, God will take his blessing away and then the United States will fall into mediocre country like the rest of the world.

President Abraham Lincoln once gave a famous speech in his Gettysburg Address: “This nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.” Most people now only remember the phrase “of the people, by the people, for the people” but forget the first phrase of “this nation under God”. Only with the blessing of God will the government “of the people, by the people, for the people” not perish from the earth.

This speech of President Lincoln represents the key elements in both commandments of Jesus Christ, “Love God” and “Love People”. I hope the leaders of the United States, both Republicans and Democrats, can follow the speech of President Lincoln and work together to fulfill the two Greatest Commandments of Jesus Christ. That’s the right way and only way to make America great again.

God Bless!

Son of Man
