Chapter 14

The Message For Americans:

Don’t Forget the Motto in Your Wallet:

"In God We Trust"

3. “In God We Trust”

“In God We Trust” is the motto of America that we can find on every coin and bill of US currency. That was a very smart thing Americans did because it can remind people of God throughout their daily lives. This motto was not on US currency at first until the end of the Civil War. After the devastating casualties in the Civil War, American people realized the importance of the blessing from God. So, Reverend M. R. Watkinson sent a letter to Mr. Salmon P. Chase, the U.S. Secretary of Treasury at the time, to suggest the recognition of God on U.S. coins. His suggestion was taken under serious consideration, and in 1864 a new law was passed that the motto "In God We Trust" would be put on the new coins. Shortly after that, the new two-cent bronze coin with the motto "In God We Trust" was issued and later, more coins bore this motto.

Ever since the motto “In God We Trust” appeared on the U.S. coin and circulated through people’s daily life, the blessing of God has shown its effect. There has been no other war like the Civil War happened on the American homeland ever since, even during the time of the two great World Wars in the early twentieth century. The American economy started to take off and America became a new economic power in the world. After the U.S. government decided to put this motto on all US currency in 1956, including both coins and paper currency, the U.S. Dollar was blessed to become the strongest currency in the world. For Salmon Chase’s instrumental contribution to place the motto “In God We Trust” on US currency, God also blesses the bank named in honor of him, the Chase Bank, to grow into one of the largest banks in the world while most banks at his time either failed or being acquired and changed the name by now. That’s the power of the blessing from God. Some countries may ask for the blessing from God through different ways, but “In God We Trust” is to offer our heart and our trust to God. And offerings will always get more blessing than asking, because that is what God likes to see.

Now the United States of America is the most powerful country in the world. It is human nature that people tend to ignore or abandon God in the good times. They think they can achieve anything and they don’t need God any more, just like what prophesied in Revelation 3:17. Some people even want to file lawsuits to remove this motto from U.S. currency and turn America into a “Godless America”. They don’t know what they are doing and what the consequence will be.

In 2007 and 2008, some foolish officials in the government decided to remove the “In God We Trust” from the face of the newly designed presidential dollar coins and inscribed it on the edge of the coin where people can hardly see. Some of them even removed the motto “In God We Trust” completely off the edge of the coins. Guess what, God also removed His blessing from this nation and threw Americans into the largest financial crisis in eighty years, and the stock market crashed over fifty percent over the next two years. The subprime mortgage was just a small portion of mortgage portfolio in the United States and the increased defaults in subprime mortgage could be stopped or at least slowed down if it was handled properly. But when people turned their back to God and fell into the money-worshipping materialism, they lost the blessing of God. That’s how a small default in subprime loans snowballed into the largest financial crisis in the last eighty years.

In 2007 & 2008, the Motto “In God We Trust” was removed
from both sides of the new presidential dollar coin.

During 2007-2008, the stock market crashed over 50%

In 2007 and 2008, Americans removed the “in God We Trust” from the face of the new presidential coin and suffered the greatest financial crisis in eighty years. Is this a coincident? Not really. If people go back to look at the Old Testament, there was a long history of Israel rebelling against God. And as the consequence, they lost the blessing of God and suffered over five hundred years under the foreign occupancy. Even the temple they built for God was destroyed. That's how God punished His chosen nation after they turn their back to God, for God will discipline those he loves. (Revelation 3:19)

America was blessed by God when it was established by the faithful people of God in the early settlements on this New Continent. That's how this country could turn from an uncivilized desert land into the most powerful nation in the world in only two hundred years. But when people began to lose faith in God, they will also lose the blessing of God. In the Book of Job in the Old Testament, Job was the wealthiest man in the tribe. But when God took His blessing and protection away from his family, his family suffered huge losses and tragedies caused by Satan. Only through his faith, his fortune was restored by the blessing of God.

Some people of the new generations in this country don’t have the experience of hardship, like World Wars and the Great Depression, in their lives. They don’t appreciate how God has blessed this nation into the most powerful and prosperous country in the world. They turn their back to God and follow their own desires and greediness to commit sins and ruin their Fortune Credit, or Treasure in Heaven as Jesus referred to in Matthew 6:19-21. They don’t know that their good living condition of this life is the result of the blessing of God for the faithfulness of their forefathers and also possibly for the positive Fortune Credit they had in their past lives. Once they turn their back to God and pursuit their materialistic desire, they could easily use up their Treasure in Heaven and cause some negative Fortune Credit or Bad Karma, then misfortune or disaster will follow.

For those Americans who don't believe in God, I have to tell you the truth. You were blessed to be born or live in this great nation of God because you have done some good thing or have some good karma in your past life. If you were born in a third world country in a desert, would you be able to achieve what you achieved in America? Probably not. Just by being born in America, you are already more fortunate than the majority of the people in the world. That’s the blessing of God, not by your choice or your own effort, but by the grace of God. If you turn against God in this life, you will never be able to reborn in this Nation of God again in your next life. You will most likely reincarnate or born again, if you are lucky enough to have a second chance, in somewhere in the Third World where you will not hear the Gospel of God and have to live through famines and plagues for the most part of your life. At that time, you will realize how miserable the life could be without the blessing of God.

God has blessed this nation into the most powerful and prosperous nation in the world. But if Americans abandoned the faith in God, the simplest punishment of God is just taking His blessing away and let this country fall into the same mediocre state as the rest of the developing world. So be thankful for what you have through the blessing of God compared to the living condition in some of the Third World countries where people constantly suffer lack of food, water, power and medicine.

Imagine how miserable the life can be if God takes that blessing away, just like what He did to Israel after they turned their back to God. King Solomon once was the wealthiest and most intelligent king on the earth with the blessing of God. But after he turned his back to God and followed the gentiles into the sins, God took His blessing away from Israel. Then the Kingdom split and eventually fell into the hand of Gentiles, and the once-blessed nation became the slave of their enemies. Therefore, it's up to the people of America to decide whether they still want the blessing of God or not. This should be the decision based on historical testimony, not just on the personal belief.

“In God We Trust” is the motto of the United States of America, which led America to great prosperity under the guidance and blessing of God. It should be the motto for all nations in the New Era of Peace and Wisdom. In God We Trust and be proud to be the One Nation under God. That’s how a nation can keep getting the blessing from God.

Since September 11, 2001, millions of Americans had prayed or sang “God Bless America.” God heard them all. This message is the answer to your prayers. God will keep blessing America if Americans can remember the motto in their wallets:

"In God We Trust"
